WE genderfluid Parfum, is a local fragrance brand based in Cape Town. WE are proud to introduce our debut fragrance line/ As South Africa’s first genderless perfume, WE aim to break down traditional gender norms in the fragrance industry.
The WE genderfluid Parfum line features five distinct fragrances: WE day, WE night, WE proud parade, WE proud party and WE limited edition.
Parfum (Eau de Parfum): A Closer Look – Parfum, also known as eau de parfum, is a type of fragrance worn by both men and women. It typically contains a high concentration of perfume oils – usually between 15% and 20% – which allows it to last on the skin for around five to eight hours.
What sets parfum apart is the way it develops over time. It’s built in layers – top, middle (or heart), and base notes – that work together to create the full scent. These layers unfold gradually, giving the fragrance depth and character.
Top Notes: These are the first scents you notice when you apply the fragrance. They’re lighter and fade quickly, usually within 15 minutes to 2 hours. Common top notes include fresh florals, citrus, fruits, and spices like cinnamon. Their job is to make an initial impression.
Middle (Heart) Notes: Once the top notes fade, the heart of the fragrance comes forward. These notes typically emerge after about 30 minutes and can last for 3 to 5 hours. This is where you’ll find richer florals and other fuller-bodied scents. Middle notes shape the personality of the fragrance.
Base Notes: Finally, as the fragrance settles, the base notes take over. They’re the foundation of the scent and help it last, sometimes for up to 10 hours. You’ll often find deeper, warmer notes here—things like sandalwood, vetiver, vanilla, tobacco, leather, and musk. These notes become more noticeable as the fragrance blends with your skin over time.
These three layers aren’t isolated – they influence each other and combine to create the final scent. This layered approach is often shown in a “fragrance pyramid” to help explain how a perfume is structured.
